In comparison, Americans eat about 3.4g of sodium per day , or half as much as Japanese people do on average.

In the United States, it’s common to see fast food restaurants with signs that say “America’s Favorite Food.” But is it really?
The average American consumes 3,400 mg of sodium per day, that’s more than double what the World Health Organization recommends (1,500 mg).
This is a lot of salt!
In Japan, on the other hand, most people eat traditional Japanese foods like sushi and miso soup instead of burgers and fries.
The average Japanese person consumes 2,000 mg of sodium per day, which is still too much for their health but at least far less than Americans consume.
How Much Sodium Should I Have In A Day?
As with most things, moderation is the key.
The recommended daily amount of sodium is 2,300 mg.
In other words, you should consume less than this amount per day if you want to maintain a healthy diet.
On average, Japanese people consume 1,500 mg per day (the lowest in the world).
Americans eat around 3,400 mg per day–the highest in the world!
Too much salt can lead to a number of health issues such as high blood pressure and stroke risk.
Too little salt may also cause problems like dizziness or fainting spells because your body isn’t getting enough nutrients from food sources such as seawater fish or soy sauce-based foods like miso soup (which has lots of sodium)

But what about you?
The fact is that we all need some sodium in our diets to function properly, but too much can cause a number of health problems.
So how much is too much?
Well, it depends on your age, gender, and other factors like whether or not you’re pregnant.
For example, an average adult should only have around 3 grams of salt per day – less than half a teaspoon!
